If you’ve got a new startup or are simply trying to be a success in the business world, self-motivation can sometimes be difficult. But it’s something you need to get good at. One of the key differences between successful entrepreneurs and those that fail is their ability to keep motivated even when they’d rather be doing something else. These seven tips should help you get started on your way to self-motivated business success, so that you can start achieving more in your work.

1. Set goals and keep them in mind

You need to know what you’re trying to achieve – and keep it in mind when times get tough. If you have to, print it out and stick it to the wall so that you’re always got your main goal in-mind. You’re not trying to do well in business “just because” – you should have clear goals and an idea of what you’re trying to achieve. Don’t lose sight of your goals.

2. Stick to the plan

As well as having a clear end goal, you should have a clear plan of how you’re going to get there. On a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Don’t start working without having a plan for what you’re going to do that day. Stick to it, and don’t stop until it’s done – even when you’re struggling. When you complete something you didn’t really feel like doing that day, you’ll feel even better – and more motivated for next time.

3. Reward yourself

Make sure you’re getting plenty of rewards. When you finish a major task – give yourself a little break. If you haven’t got a boss telling you that you’ve done a great job, tell yourself. Make sure there’s light at the end of the tunnel and that you’ve got a good balance between hard work and reward.

4. Make sure your friends are a help not a hindrance

Tell all your friends what you’re trying to achieve so they can be pulling in the right direction. Giving yourself some extra accountability helps, and so does having people around you to keep you motivated. Make sure they’re not trying to distract you when you need to be doing work.

5. Get plenty of sleep

Sleep has a huge impact on how productive the following day will be. Far too many businesspeople think sleep is for the weak and skip as much as they can. They’re making a big mistake. If you want to be full of energy and motivated to work hard – you need good quality sleep, and plenty of it.

6. Treat mistakes as a positive and learn from them

Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you make them and fall into a pit of self-pity. Treat them as a learning experience and know that you’ve learnt something new about business that keeps you in better shape for next time.

7. Get inspired by others

One of the best ways to keep motivated is by following techniques and tips from other successful people that inspire you. Check out some motivational quotes to keep you inspired and following the right path. Try reading autobiographies and other self-help books from people who’ve been successful in your industry.
